The Role of Negative Posttraumatic Cognitions in the Treatment of Patients with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

Abstract Background Negative post-traumatic cognitions (PTC) are a risk factor for the development and maintenance of stress disorder (PTSD). PTC have further been linked to symptoms depression, anxiety, emotion regulation (ER). We investigated role in treatment PTSD patients. Method analyzed data from 339 inpatients (279 female) who received inpatient trauma-focused eight twelve weeks. PTC, PTSD, ER were assessed at admission discharge. assessment included negative about self, world, self-blame. Results The results show that all ER, except self-blame, decreased during treatment. Only baseline level self was related changes depression severity. other levels not any symptom Changes ER. world only PTSD. self-blame associated with re-experiencing.
